Firework 5k

Welcome to the Firework 5k! This event will take place at the Badin Road Drive-in movie theater located at (2411 Badin Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001). Lace-up your running shoes and join us for a morning of fitness and fun. We are going to try and beat the heat so the action starts with packet pick-up/ late registration at 7:15 am followed by the 5k run starting at 8:15 am.  In addition to the excitement of the race, there will be medals for the top 5 male and female runners, recognizing their outstanding performance. We also hope to provide as many racers with shirts as we possibly can so we urge you to sign up as soon as possible to guarantee you have the correct shirt size on race day, sign-ups after June 1, 2024 are not guaranteed a shirt.

The Firework 5k  is not just any race – it's a chance to make a difference. We aim to raise money for a local high school senior track athlete, Joshawa Huneycutt, to help him attend the 2024 Adidas Outdoor Track Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina June 14th - June 16th, 2024.  Participating in the Firework 5k will contribute to a brighter future for a hard-working young athlete.

COURSE DESCRIPTION (5k) We decided to move locations to provide a course that is capable of helping all participants hit their personal best! The 5k route is a loop through the neighborhood behind the drive-in with around 20 ft of elevation change. We will also have volunteers stationed at the halfway point with a water table. We will also do our best to mark the course with signs and markers to ensure the racers know where they will be running. For a picture of the course map please go to photos on the race website and under the album "COURSE MAP" is a photo of the 2024 course map. The race will start right beside the theater on SPEIGHT RD. After a few steps, make a left onto MOSS SPRINGS RD and continue until you reach IMPALA DR where you will make another left. From there, turn right onto MONZA DR and continue straight until you reach DICK ST, where you will make a left and then another left onto EASTWOOD DR. After a nice little downhill stretch, make a left onto MILTON DR and cross a short gravel road. At the end of the gravel road, make a left onto CATALINA DR, which will lead you to MONZA DR. Make a sharp right turn onto MONZA DR and follow it back to IMPALA DR, then turn left. The water table will be set up at this corner, marking the halfway point.

Follow IMPALA RD back to MOSS SPRINGS RD and make a left, then a right onto ATOM DR. Once on ATOM RD, make your way to SEYMORE AVE and turn right, then left onto GARY AVE, followed shortly by another left on SANDRY LN as it changes into ATOM DR in the curve. Continue on ATOM DR and make your way back to MOSS SPRINGS RD, turn left, and head back to SPEIGHT RD for the final stretch to the finish line. 

Additional Information: There will NOT be a mile event this year, ONLY the 5k race. This event will not be automatically timed, instead, we will have hand timers stationed at the finish line who will record placements and the times associated. After finishing runners will need to check in and attach their names to the placement and times received. We also encourage runners to use running apps on their smartphones, or stopwatches to track their times.
