About the event
In collaboration with the Scott family, Rowan College at Burlington County is hosting the 6th annual Bolt for Becky 5K and One Mile Walk to honor the life of
Rebecca “Becky” Scott.
Becky was a Virtua paramedic. She was well respected, dedicated and a friend to many in the field. In May of 2014 Becky was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer at the young age of 27. Treatment began immediately. This cancer battle that Becky waged with her family’s support over the ensuing 18 months was truly nothing short of courageous. Sadly, her cancer had traveled to her liver and brain. In spite of every medical effort, chemotherapy and clinical trials, Becky passed away on October 27, 2015 at the age of 28.
Most impressive and inspirational about Becky was her passion and commitment to her paramedic career. In spite of the illness, harsh treatments and anxiety Becky continued working up to 12 days before her passing. She continued helping others and saving lives. A fighter as described in the dictionary is “a person with the will, courage, determination, ability, or disposition to fight, struggle, resist…”
Becky was awarded the Outstanding Paramedic of the Year Award in November of 2015. Before passing Becky was made aware that she was the award recipient. Becky was an amazing young woman in other ways. She stayed fit and often ran in local 5K races.
The RCBC Foundation is honored to be involved in this event. We are proud to announce that this year in addition to the 5K race and one mile walk RCBC will be hosting an antique and classic car show to include food and refreshments. A separate car show flyer is available with event details.
All events, 5K, walk and car show will be on the sprawling campus of RCBC in Mount Laurel, NJ. All proceeds from the 5K, mile walk and car show will benefit the Rebecca Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund for students enrolled in the Paramedic Science Program at RCBC. To date this scholarship has aided financially a dozen paramedic students at RCBC.
This 5K race is flat and fast and on the campus grounds of RCBC. The race will be chip timed with an HD finish line video published on YouTube and integrated into
a custom final result. All runners and walkers will receive a great event tech shirt, amenities, custom bib, overall and ten-year age group awards. Come out for some fun, support a very worthy cause! While you’re at it, go see some great cars after the race. Even better! If you have a classic car bring it out and get a two for one experience. Awards are also being presented for car show event participants.
Looking forward to seeing you all on September 29, 2024!
