New Kensington Fit Fest 5k

FIT FEST is Back in 2024!!!

Description!

The 5k will kick off the New Kensington Fitness Festival. Come prepared to participate in the 5k (3.2 miles) and stay after for a ton more fun, healthy activities and food. The festival is happening in downtown New Kensington where it is really starting to shine once again. Tons of new Businesses are popping up all the time and pedestrian traffic has picked up substantially. Come and see what the buzz is about. Bring a few sets of clothes to enjoy all the activities. Watch for all the exciting things and schedule of events for the Fitness Festival which will be coming soon.

The course has you run around the downtown/industrial area up then down several different streets all thru the newer redeveloped business area. There are a few turns along the course. The turns have you weaving away from the start line area before making one big loop bringing you back to the finish line area. Which is right where the Fit Festival will be. It is roughly 3.2 miles.

Its a pretty flat course. It has less then 100 feet of gain. Its all on asphalt.

There will be one water stop along the course.

PRICING:

Pricing is $25 till registration closes. Day of registration will be $30. There is also a option for those registering as a group of 4 to get the price of $80. Youth 12 and under are free.

Awards 5k: 

Top M & F overall for the 5k run, top 3 in each age group: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50+

Rucking division participants will all receive a patch. The fastest Rucker to cross the finish line will receive a festival hat, ruck patch and a sponsored gift

Time limit is 1 hour 5 minutes which equals a 20:55 pace

Schedule of events:
8:00 am registration opens (may be opened earlier email closer to event be sent)
8:50 am registration closes
9:00 am race starts
10:05 race ends (must be across mats by 10:05 to be included in results)
10:10 awards ceremony

We encourage you to come early day so the line runs smoothly. We will not delay the start of the race for those registering day of.

WHATS INCLUDED:

Custom t-shirt if registered by July 7, No Exceptions, custom race bib, chip timing with results posted online, safe environment, and a chance to make lasting memories. There will also be a gift bag and swag for all finishers.

RULES:
We ask that no pets be brought on the course or around the start/finish/awards. We love dogs and other animals but not everyone is comfortable around them. This is for safety and insurance reasons.

Headphones are allowed, we ask you to please be courteous to fellow runners and that you listen to your audio devices at a reasonable volume so you can hear other runners coming or calling out if they are passing you. Also, so you can hear those directing traffic or traffic coming, again it is not a closed course. If you are pushing a stroller, please be aware of other runners and vehicles give them the right away.

No smoking, alcohol or drug use is permitted in any area the race will be using this includes parking lots, staging area, race course or restrooms. These are our rules. Remember this is a kid friendly event where young lungs are at play along with the possibility of adults with health issues. we are trying to make this event safe and comfortable for everyone.

No throwing any trash/garbage along the course. Whatever you start with you have to end with. The only exception to throw trash away is at the water stop at that garbage can there.

Shirt Policy:
To receive a shirt registration must be complete by July 7th at 8pm, no exceptions. Extras will not be ordered. After the race, shirts of any runner that did not show up will be given to those runners that signed up race day or missed the shirt deadline on a first come first serve basis. No shirts will be ordered after the race. No shirts or swag will be mailed. Any awards or shirts left after the race will be become property of the race and donated. The shirt this year is yellow.

We do not offer refunds, cancellations or transfers at this time. This event will go on no matter the weather unless by some chance a state of emergency is declared. .

Run signup does offer insurance for races and we enabled this feature for this race so if you want you can purchase insurance while registering but it does not go thru us directly it goes thru runsignup.

TIMING:

Gun Timing with a mass start with chip finish. Unless there is a strict covid restriction policy then the race will go to a starting mat time trial event with runners being spread out at the start. Race will not be cancelled unless a natural disaster. You bibs will have a chip on the back so time is accurate once you cross the finish line. For the timing mats to read your time properly have bibs placed on the front of your body. If bibs are placed on your back it will not get read properly.

RESULTS
Results will be posted online after the race at www.smileymiles.com, please be patient is may take 24 hours for results to be fully posted. I will also post a link to them after they are posted.

FOOD/LIQUIDS:

We will provide water at the water stop. There will also be water and the brand Ready Drink at the finish line.

MISC INFO:

Portajohns will be located near the start/finish line area will be there to use before and after the race.

We are changing up the format this year of our Yoga festival. This year we’re going to follow the lead of the GoYoga Concept and I have Several murals mapped around the downtown area. Participants are highly encouraged to visit the awesome artwork around town and throw up their best yoga pose or just be silly and enjoy the art!

In addition, they’ll be great vibes pumped out by DJ BMW and lots of smell good foods from local vendors:)
