Gritventure! - WV

Element Adventures is proud to present Gritventure!, an adventure ride based out of our Element Adventures West Camp in Augusta, WV.  Featuring gravel roads, stiff climbs, and backcountry riding, this ride will bring out the little kid in you!  With three route options to choose from, you'll find the perfect challenge.  The 74 mile route will test your mettle, and the 56 mile route will still provide plenty of suffering with your joy.  The Short 27 mile ride will still give you plenty of smiles!

This will be a true gravel adventure: no route markings and limited SAG.  Download the GPX files so you can navigate the route (Cue sheets will also be provided).  There will be no aid stations set up, though there will be bars and gels available at the ride start to throw in your jersey pockets to take with you.  You'll need to carry enough water with you to last the ride or refill at stores or spigots found along the way. (There is a store along the long and medium routes).  Be prepared with flat changing tools and spare tubes, as gravel can be rough on tires.  Take a cell phone, but be aware that service can be spotty.  This ride will go rain or shine, so if the forecast is cold and wet, be sure to dress appropriately!

Suggested Equipment: Although you can probably ride these routes with just about any bike, a cyclocross or adventure bike with 32-40 mm tires would be your best choice.  You'll want a wide range of gearing, too, as some of the hills can be steep.

Although you may start as soon as you check in, there will be a ride leader for a no-drop group for each ride length if you would prefer to ride with a group.  Long ride will start at 8:30, Medium Ride at 9:00, Short at 9:30.

Food!  Be sure to stick around after the ride, as a barbecue will be provided.

Cost: $25 through May 25, then $35 through June 14.  Day of registration will be $45.

Time: Check-in will be at 8:00 am through 10:00 am.  You may begin your ride as soon as you have checked in, or join one of the group rides.

Jerseys: These jerseys are full-zip and made of advanced moisture-wicking fabric to keep you cool and dry.  Rear pockets. Comfortable club fit available in mens and womens. You can order your jersey during registration.  $75. Size Charts below.

Directions to Element Adventures West Camp: From NoVA, take I-66 West to I-81 North to exit 310 (Route 37).  Take 37 North to Route 50 West.  Take Route 50 West through Augusta, WV.  Make a left onto McKee Hollow Road.  Take an almost immediate right onto South Fork of Little Cacapon Road.  In about 1.2 miles you will see a large mailbox with the address 1332.  Turn right up the driveway, and follow all the way up past the house and the barn to the parking area.  (Google Maps of South Fork of Little Cacapon road brings you just short of the address - you'll go a bit further to reach the driveway).  There will be an Element Adventures sign at the driveway.
