Welcome to registration for the fifth Annual Cacapon Enduro
It just keeps growing with 225+ racers last year! Ready to make this year's race bigger and better??
Stages TBD, but targeting 5 stages at 19 miles, 3 trips to the top, and 3,500'+ of climbing (for U14 and Sport Class 4 stages, 2 trips to the top, and 2,600' of climbing) The course will be a great mix of technical, rocky terrain and will feature Thunderstruck! The wildcard is new trail development starting early this spring that may give us a rideable trail to the top for the climbs.

The hub of the race will, again, be the Batt Picnic Area at Cacapon Resort State Park. The signs are pretty clear and we will supplement with event signs. Come to the Batt Picnic Shelter to get your chip 8am-10am on Sunday, May 15. We may update this for early registration, so look for email updates. After getting your timing chip, you can begin pushing up Giddy Up to start the race between 8:30am-10am. There will be a fee for lost timing chips. Your chip number is noted in your registration information so please return your chip to registration after you finish your race so we don't have to send out the TCRF (Timing Chip Recovery Force).
THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION- YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER BY SATURDAY, MAY 18 AT MIDNIGHT
Attendance capped at 250 racers... If interest is strong, we may get more chips and take it to 300.
This is a "chip and go" race, so arrive to the Batt Picnic Shelter between 8am and 10am to pick up your chip, then begin the race at 8am with a ride.... ummm push... up Giddy Up. E-Bikes will ride up the road...
Race Cutoff is 3:00PM and will be strictly enforced.... cross the line at 3:01 and results will not be counted.
PRIZE: For OPEN Class- there will be nice cash prizes for the top 3 finishes. For all other classes, will have bragging rights and swag fro the prize table!

Below are the stages. You can run the race in any order you want since we will not be using Giddy Up as a descending stage this year. You can also choose to either ride / push up Boy Scout and then Giddy Up or ride the road up. Anyone caught using a personal shuttle during the race will be immediately DQ'd from the race with no refund or may be tossed off a cliff at the top of the mountain.
Stage 1: All classes EXCEPT Sport and U14. Upper Thunderstruck. This is the one you have heard about. Built in 2022 by IMBA Trail Solutions, it is a true Black Diamond expert trail that is truly challenging. It starts with a machine built section that launches you downhill like a rocket and then narrows down to hand built rocky fun. This trail will have your heartrate spiking because it is a full body workour and requires pedaling. Upper Thunderstruck drops 722' in 1.6 miles. There are descents, flat sections and a few punchy climbs... add in one or two rocks, drops and a narrow, exposed trail and you have the ingredients for fun!
Stage 2 Middle & Lower Thunderstruck. The lower section is all machine built with plenty of chunk still present. Dropping 363' in 1.5 miles, you will finish with a big smile on your face… rocky, flowy, jumpy fun! If Sport class or U-14, reach this stage by riding up the road, you can NOT reach the start of this stage going up Giddy Up.
STAGE 3: Ziler Loop South You will climb up Giddy Up or ride up the road and then ride across to where you started Ziler North, except this time turn right and ride Ziler South. This rowdy trail drops over 900' in 1.7 miles and features some rutted, rock sections requiring big moves for the fastest times, but also has some punishing, punchy uphills and very loose rock at the bottom.
Stage 4: Ziler Loop North drops over 890' in about 1.2 miles and features lots of off-camber rocks and a max gradient of 30%. After this stage, follow Central Trail south across park to Ziler Trail. After this stage, riders will follow the signs across Central Trail to the beginning of the Stage 5, the "Secret Stage."
Stage 5 "Secret Stage" since it is on trails closed to bikes EXCEPT during the race weekend... yes, we have the permission from the park to close this trail to hikers for the race! This will be Stage 2 from previous races, Lower Ziler, This stage is about 1.5 miles long and drops about 600'. The end of this stage is at the bottom of the mountain.
The park features many cabins and a newly updated lodge with restaurant. Here is a link to lodging reservations.

The park does not have a campground BUT the park superintendent loves mountain bikers and is setting up a dedicated camping area again this year. This year the campground area will be at the swimming lake parking lot and will be open Friday, May 17 to Sunday May 19. Early set up will be allowed the evening of Thursday, May 16. This camping area is a paved and gravel parking lot suitable for car camping and tent camping. This area can also handle pull behind campers and RV's as well, BUT there is no hook up and NO dump station. Camping will be only $50 for the whole weekend and is first come, first served with sites. We do need an estimate of the number of campers, so please note if camping for the event. Registration for camping will be at the Lodge Front Desk. Just tell them you are there for the Enduro race. The beach bath house will be open for the campers, so HOT showers will be available.
For those unfamiliar with the area, Cacapon State Park is located on US Route 522 at the Virginia-West Virginia state line. It is 30 minutes north of Winchester, Va., 15 minutes south of Berkeley Springs, WV, and 20 minutes west of Martinsburg, WV. This is an easy drive from the DMV, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and everywhere in Va and WV.
Like what you are seeing us do at Cacapon? If so, please donate through the non-profit Foundation so we can continue to develop the trail system. The park has dedicated nearly 1,000 acres to mountain biking and we are about to kick the build into high gear! We will debut the new skills park this year for everyone to enjoy with much more to come! Every dollar helps! Here's the link to make a donation: https://www.crspf.org/mountain-biking/
