The Waterville Trailrunning Festival is a series of trail races over 3 days, along the Lough Currane/Derrynane loop of the Kerry Way, on the Atlantic tip of the Iveragh Peninsula.
Covering some of the most scenic sections of the Kerry Way in Waterville, Derrynane and the surrounding areas.
The WTF Ultra Stage Race and the WTF Ultra Marathon races looped course will travel through Derrynane Beach right down at sea level up to the highest point on the Kerry Way at Eagle's Hill and back around Lough Currane. A fully way marked route including rough mountainside, single track and tarred road. Stunning area of natural beauty, including majestic sea views, rugged mountain passes and foothills, lake and island vistas, and a fantastic 5km ridge run offering unparalleled views across Ballinskelligs Bay and of the Skelligs.
Race headquarters will be Waterville village, with loops starting/finishing at Lough Currane Holiday Homes in the heart of the village and the Classic Trail starting in Derrynane and also finishing at Lough Currane Holiday Homes. Each of the races is self sufficient, with crew support allowed for the looped races only at specified locations. Runners participating in the WTF Ultra Stage Race and the WTF Ultra Marathon races provided with a GPS tracker and runners in the WTF Classic Trail Race will be timed with electronic timing. Hand crafted awards will be presented to each race winner and all finishers will receive a finishers gift pack.
The festival is a not for profit event, after all costs have been covered if there are any funds remaining they will be donated to local charities.

Day 1 – Clockwise loop.
Day 2 – Anticlockwise loop.
Day 3 – Direction is Race Directors choice, informed to runners at the end of day 2 (Just after the final finisher of the day has crossed the finish line).
Race starts at 09:00 each day.
Finish line cut off at 17:00 each day.
Any participant failing to finish within the cut-off time will not be eligible to start the next stage.

A 43.2 km, 1,240m elevation clockwise loop of the Kerry Way, starting in Waterville, continuing along the northern side of Lough Currane, crossing the hills at the eastern end of the Lake, ascending Eagle Hill, dropping down to the shore in Derrynane and back around through the saddle by Coomakista to finish in Waterville. A fully way marked route including rough mountainside, single track and tarred road. Stunning area of natural beauty, including majestic sea views, rugged mountain passes and foothills, lake and island vistas, and a fantastic 5km ridge run offering unparalleled views across Ballinskelligs Bay. And in case you miss anything going clockwise, don't worry you will get to do it anti-clockwise also. Maps below.

Route Overview:
Starting in Derrynane, this race covers tracks, trails, beaches, fields and a few bits of tarmac too. Stunning views of Derrynane, Kenmare Bay, the Beara Peninsula, Ballinskelligs Bay, the Skelligs and Waterville along the way. With fast grassy ramps, technical single track and some leg screaming and lung busting climbs to challenge runners of all standards.
