How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?
This is a brand new race created to attract both local runners and those from overseas. We are a not for profit entity who will donate the proceeds of the event to charity. This year those charities have been identified as the Cancer Society of the Bahamas and the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
The route is designed to showcase the beauty of the Bahamas, from the start, sunrise at beautiful Montague beach, over the bridge to the breathtaking Paradise island along the northern coast of the island. Runners will be able to take views of the beautiful ocean and pristine beaches. The race will end at the historic Fort Charlotte where runners will be able to unwind and get a massage on the beach.
How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
As this is the inaugural event we anticipate no more than 400-500 runners. Most will be club runners and relay runners however we do expect a few elite runners to join us.
Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?
This year we are running the full, half and relay marathons simultaneously. We will consider other distances in subsequent years.
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
During the early morning hours of an average february day in the bahamas, you can expect the temperature will be in the vicinity of 66.5 degrees. The temperature will rise over the course of the typical february day, reaching somewhere around 75.9 degrees by early afternoon. by the early evening hours in february the temperature will generally fall to somewhere in the vicinity of 70.1 degrees. overall, temperatures in the bahamas during february average around 70.5 degrees.
Have you planned festivities around the marathon?
Yes we will be hosting a welcome reception, and an expo along with the award presentation.
The marathon finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Nassau before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
There is a wonderful variety of activities locally from scuba diving and power boat rides to water theme parks and casinos. I would encourage your members to visit www.bahamas.com and our partner hotel websites found from www.marathonbahamas.com for more information.
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Marathon Bahamas?
