35th Annual Mohican Trail Run

SAVE THE RACE DATE: June 1-2, 2024, packet pickup on Friday May 31

Due to the incredible growth and popularity of the Mohican Trail Run, in 2020 the race date was moved up by two weeks to avoid the busy Fathers Day Weekend. Our race alone brings about 2000 people to a town of 2600 on what has become a holiday weekend. For the last few years, we have made small adjustments to allow for more parking, including limiting the size of the race, moving the start of the race a mile away from the finish to add parking, and moving the Marathon Run from a more typical morning start to a noon start. By moving our date to a less busy weekend, we now offer runners the following advantages.

Increased racer limitStart and Finish in the same locationMorning race start for the Marathon RunAmple parking near the start/finishGreater availability of camping/cabins on site at Mohican Adventures

All new race information will be made public as it becomes available. You will not receive nonpublic information by contacting the race director. However, Race Specific Questions not available on the website should be directed to [email protected]

For camping/cabin reservations or to change reservations to the new race dates please contact Mohican Adventures at [email protected] or call 419-994-2267. Please leave a detailed message and they will get back to you shortly.

UTMB has accepted the 2023 Mohican 26, 50, and 100 runs as Index Races.  Mohican now has a five-year streak with UTMB. In case you haven't been following it: UTMB has been expanding in the last year, and now it is a series of events that will be held over the course of the year and spread all across the world, rather than a single race held in France in August.  In past years, Mohican qualified runners to enter the lottery for the UTMB race in France held in August, but from now on Mohican will qualify you to participate in other UTMB world series events, and your participation in those other UTMB-owned events will then earn "running stones" that will be used for the UTMB race held in France in August 2023 and thereafter.  So, put another way, running Mohican used to earn you direct access to the UTMB (France in August) lottery, but now running Mohican will only earn indirect access to UTMB (France in August), by serving as an "Index Race" that will qualifying you for the world series events that earn running stones.  All Mohican finishing results will be submitted to UTMB for inclusion in runners index; Mohican 100 will qualify runners for UTMB world series 100-mile events, the Mohican 50 will qualify you for UTMB world series 100k events, and the Mohican marathon will qualify you for UTMB 50k events.  For more information, it listed at: https://utmb.world/index-races  Western States has selected the 2024 Mohican 100 as a qualifying race for the 2025 Western States 100.Any runner who completes the race within the time limit will be qualified to apply for the lottery, which will be held in December 2024. Great Experience
"This was my first 50 miler Ultra Race and what a breathtaking course. I live in SF and was nervous about the weather that could have been on race day, but it turned out better than I could have asked for. It is hilly and but that’s to be expected. I’d recommend this race for anyone."

Top Tips:
Make sure to grab snack at the side stations. You may not be hungry right when passes but it good to keep snack on hand.

Great tough race
"This race is truly a hike through the Ohio wilderness. A lot hillier than any other race I have done in Ohio and despite not having any super long climbs, is pretty comparable to some other races I've done out west. Felt like this whole race was up and down in varying degrees of incline."

Top Tips:
Prepare yourself, the aid stations are a little far apart in the second half of the loop.

Fabulous Trail Race
"The Mohican was an amazing experience! The trails were absolutely gorgeous, even in the torrential downpour that came during the night. The course was marked well, and the aid stations were well stocked, and volunteers were so encouraging and supportive. I loved the hot chocolate and potato soup during the night! The medical team and podiatrist team at the finish line were incredible and took the best care of you. Definitely a repeat race!"

Top Tips:
The weather changes quickly. Bring extra clothes

Background

For 34 years, The Mohican Trail 100 Mile Run, often referred to as the MO100, has become one of the nation’s premier ultra-marathons. Home of the first ever USATF Ultra Running Championship in 2005, Mohican is reportedly the fifth oldest ultra-running race in the USA.

Traverse 95% Trail along a challenging course winding its way through the lush 5000-acre Mohican Memorial State Forest. Along with the 100, The Mohican 50-Mile and Marathon distances have become increasingly popular, offering runners a taste of the whole enchilada. Rest assured is that whatever distance you choose, Mohican volunteers will be there to help you complete your journey.

Ask a Mohican finisher and you will find that Mohican volunteers have become re-known for the level of  personal service offered to MO’s hopeful runners. As you run, you will be following in the foot-steps of many legendary MO Runners who have taken the Mohican Challenge, including famed Caballo Blanco of the national bestseller “Born to Run” who completed the Mohican 50 as one of the final races in his much celebrated life journey. Take the first step toward your Mohican journey by entering or volunteering today!

Mohican is also the second stop of the NINTH annual Midwest Grand Slam

Whether you are an experienced ultra-marathoner or just looking for your first off-road Marathon, 50-mile or 100-mile race, MO should be on YOUR Must-Do list.
