The race begins at the Parque das Nações, in Lisbon, Portugal and goes through the marked paths of the pilgrims to Fátima.

How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?

This race took place the first time six years ago and started with just me. I wanted to go beyond my limits.
An unusual initiative in Portugal at the time.

What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?

This route has not been set by us, it is the original route of the so called “Caminhos do Tejo,” marked by the Centro Nacional de Cultura in Portugal.

The race starts at the Expo Park and covers the following locations, which correspond to local supply and control points: Vila Franca de Xira, Vila Nova da Rainha, Valada, Santarém, Santos, Monsanto, Minde and Fatima.

It is a mixed of roads and trails, although sometimes even on asphalt, the climbs are demanding, the mountainous landscape dominates most of the time, the horizon. Completing the race provides 3 points for the UTMB.

How many runners do you expect on Friday evening? What type of runners do you plan to attract?

This race for logistic reasons is limited to 50 athletes, we hope to reach the 50 registrations soon.
Athletes who sign up are essentially ultra trail and trial runners.

Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?

No.

At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?

The beginning of the race will be given to 22 hours of June 8, for at least 10 hours the temperature will be very pleasant for the athletes. The following day there is usually a sharp rise in temperature.
Every year has been very hot, a typical summer day.

Have you planned festivities around the marathon?

Who makes the party are the elements of the organization in each supply area. The athletes here are greeted with fury and supported in order to feel ready to continue. In addition to supplying athletes, they may have massages at some locations.

Athletes can take a shower upon arrival and relax in a hotel near the finish line. Around 21:30 on Saturday 9th June, the organization performs a conference dinner for all, which delivers the awards.

The start site of the race is an area along the river very good for walking, jogging or just taking a walk, has lots of restaurants where athletes can enjoy good food.

In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Caminhos do Tejo?

On the green valleys and marked trails, we will leave free, step by step to the place where it falls into the veil of mystery end. Fatima!

Interview with Eduardo Santos, president of the OMundodaCorridacom Association. He was the first in Portugal to complete the ultra marathon “Caminhos do Tejo” in continuous run without stopping, although not for competition purposes. It was in 2008. The following year the race became competitive.
