Reservations for the 2016 edition open on Wednesday 6. Round Two on April 12 with the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon 1. A Kenyan victory in the men’s race and an Ethiopian triumph in the ladies’ one 35 314 competitors —a new participation record— started the 23rd edition of the Paris Half Marathon on the esplanade of the Château de Vincennes at 10 am this morning. The bright sunshine and lack of wind meant that the Spring Challenge lived up to its name more than ever! Kenya’s Vincent Yator beat fellow countryman Mark Korir to take the men’s race with an outstanding time of 1 h 00′16″. Ethiopia’s Abrha Asefa took the bottom step of the podium. Frenchman Hassan Chahdi also turned heads with a fourth-plac finish (1 h 01′42″). It was the first half marathon for the 26-year-old Entente Centre Isère runner, who was crowned French cross-country champion last weekend. “This double whammy makes me want to have a go at the marathon in the 2016”, he chirped on the finish line. An Ethiopian 1-2-3 in the ladies’ race. Defending champion Yebrgual Melese prevailed over Afera Godfay and Abrha Asefa to grab the win with a time of 1 h 09′54″. 2. The podiums Men’s podium: 1. Vincent Yator (KEN) 1 h 00′16″ 2. Mark Korir (KEN) 1 h 00′52″ 3. Abrha Asefa (ETH) 1 h 01′11″ Ladies’ podium: 1. Yebrgual Melese (ETH) 1 h 09′54″ 2. Afera Godfay (ETH) 1 h 10′08″ 3. Fifty bands and music groups cheered the field on throughout the course in the streets of eastern Paris. 4. Girl power! Never before had so many women taken part in a French half marathon. 34% of the registered runners were women, a 4% increase over 2014. It was a serendipitous coincidence that the 23rd edition of the Paris Half Marathon was held on International Women’s Day. 5. The first stage of registration for the 2016 edition opens on Wednesday Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) is well aware of the enthusiasm around the Paris Half Marathon and has therefore decided to reward event regulars. Starting on March 11 at 10 am, everyone who signed up for the 2014 or 2015 edition will be eligible for one of the 10,000 race numbers for 2016 available at the preferential rate of 49 euros. 6. Round Two on April 12 with the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon The Paris Half Marathon was the first event in the French capital’s running trilogy. Next up on the Parisian menu of Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) are the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon, the most popular event in the French sports calendar, on April 12 and the L’Équipe 10 km on June 14. Over 110,000 runners will take part in these three races. The 24th edition of the Paris Half Marathon will be held on March 6, 2016.
