(June 17, 2021) – CRRG Events is pleased to announce the 12th Annual Carmel Marathon Weekend will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2022. In addition, the event has been chosen to take part in the Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) Wanda Age Group World Ranking Qualifying Series, the first ever global age group marathon ranking system. The Carmel Marathon Weekend event date in 2022, one of the first spring races in the Midwest, will be held one week later than the traditional first Saturday in April. The popular race, located in the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, includes a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and marathon relay on a fast, flat course. The AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings comprise a one-year qualifying period during which athletes in nine separate age groups can compete in marathons across the world to earn ranking points. At the end of the qualifying period, the top ranked runners in each age group will be invited to the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships. The rankings cover age groups from 40 to 80-plus for men and women as follows:  40-44 45-49 50-54 55-59 60-64 65-69 70-74 75-79 80+ “Our age group world ranking series is a truly global offering with more than 300 marathons across six continents,” said Tim Hadzima, executive director of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. “This gives everyone the chance to record their best performances over the 12-month qualifying period and earn world ranking points that could take them to the start line of the 2023 AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships.” The 2021 Carmel Marathon Weekend returned as an in-person event on April 3 after staging a virtual event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The full marathon in 2021 had more than 1,000 finishers for the first time ever this April, with 3,300-plus total finishers in the five events. In addition, six new course records were set in 2021 and 29 percent of marathon participants qualified for the Boston Marathon, making the event a top-5 Boston-qualifier race per MarathonGuide.com. “With the many challenges brought on by the pandemic, it is great to see our events having continued success and growth across all CRRG Events, including the Carmel Marathon, our signature event,” said Todd Oliver, race director for the Carmel Marathon Weekend. “With growth comes recognition. We are honored to be included in the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings Series, and I’m thrilled that our participants can be featured on a global scale.” Registration is now open for next year’s Carmel Marathon Weekend event on April 9, 2022.
