An unforgettable Marathon experience at Serengeti along wildlife like elephants and giraffes Participating in the marathon organized by Setco College near the Serengeti Park in Tanzania was nothing short of extraordinary. Over the course of two days, my friends and I who came all the way from Belgium, had a beautiful challenge that was deeply rewarding. The event kicked off with a half marathon in Mugumu just as the sun began to rise. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and good energy. The second day was even more unique, as we were up before dawn to travel by bus to the Ikoma Gate, where we started our 12km run at sunrise. Running among the majestic wildlife—zebras, elephants, giraffes—was a surreal experience that will forever be etched in my memory. The organization, led by Samuel and the Setco College team, did a really good job. Every detail, from the beautifully designed running shirts and medals to providing water, snacks, and even lunch. The price for such a well-organized event was also really reasonable, making it accessible to a wide range of participants. What made this marathon even more special was the cause behind it. All proceeds were dedicated to fight poaching in the Serengeti park and providing meals in schools. This way you help protecting wildlife in the Serengeti Park and feed children, making every step we took feel purposeful. The people we met were incredibly open and friendly, adding to the warmth and joy of the experience. To top it all off, one of our group members finished in the top three and received a significant cash prize:). If you find yourself in Tanzania during this period, I highly recommend participating in this marathon. It’s a rare opportunity to run literally among the wild animals of the Serengeti, contribute to wildlife conservation, and take home some very cool, well-designed gadgets. A huge thank you to Samuel and the entire Setco College team for organizing such a unique and unforgettable experience!

Samwel made a great arrangement for us when we were not flexible to move our trip to the new date of the race in October. We got a perfectly tailored plan with a 21km "fun run" with an american couple and safari as well as visits to interesting attractions in and arround his town Mugumu on the Serengeti. Samwel and his crew did everything to make us comfortable and safe from the time we were picked up in Arusha until we returned. Although the race was not official, it was organized with traffic safety and a large organizing team. Impressive to see this and to be able to run with the local "elite" who were invited. Those who are lucky enough to participate in the Serengeti marathon & anti-poaching run on Oct. 7/8. will get a unique experience when the whole local community cheers in the streets. Thank you very much Samwel.

Mr. Samwel and his team organized a great event for my husband and I and a couple other travelers during our time in Serengeti! The official race had to be postponed for logistical reasons, but they gladly offered to still have a 10k “fun run” and even entertained my request for a 20k fun run so I could meet my half marathon training goal. The running crew consisted of about 20 local (very friendly!!) runners and us travelers. It was an incredible experience to run with the local running team through their hometown, and even have other locals join us for the run, impromptu, along the way! Even for a “fun run”, we were offered water, electrolytes, bathrooms, and snacks along the route, as well as t-shirts and medals to be sent to us back in our home countries once they became available. 110% hospitality and quality. Totally recommended.

Hi there , Was a great event , was fun and we were impressed by the organisation committee having medical staff on hand , police , water stops all arranged and sign boards up for the route , great commadarie from the other runners and supporters alike was very encouraging . Only things I would strongly suggest; would be the water stops should have had served water out of paper cups to reduce the plastic waste .

lucky we had the rain the night before otherwise it would have been really dusty and hot to run 21 km in the heat .
