Each year the organizers of the Venice Marathon (held on October 25, 2015) host a night half marathon in Cavallino Treporti, on the peninsula that separates the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. The race starts at 7:30 pm.
Eyob Faniel, 23 year old Eritrean, training in Italy and in the process of becoming Italian won the half marathon with a time of 01:05:34. Francesco Bona and Ruggero Pertile finished with the same time 01:05:37, but Francesco managed to get slightly ahead of Ruggero at the end of the sprint.
In the women’s race, Giovanna Pizzato took the lead one kilometer into the race and never stopped. She won the race in 01:19:09. It is her second victory in Cavallino Treporti (first win in 2012). Rosa Alfieri (01:19:39) and Mirella Bergamo (01:21:20) complete the podium.
3,666 runners finished the race. 600 more than last year.
